Every mother, partner and baby deserves personalized, continuous, holistic support on their birthing day.

Imagine having a Birth Pro with you every step of the way, providing the guidance, deep nurturing and evidence based info you need to confidently make wise and healthy decisions on that beautiful yet challenging day. My job is to help you achieve the most satisfying birth experience possible; one that leaves you feeling elevated and joyous! As a Certified Holistic Birth Doula, HypnoBirthing Educator, former Midwives Assistant and home/waterbirthing mother of three, I bring my extensive training, knowledge and personal experiences with me.  I understand the different stages of labor and how to navigate them, know the latest ACOG Guidelines, and can intuit what a woman needs physically, emotionally and mentally during her transformation from Maiden to Mother.

Whether you are giving birth in a hospital, birth center or at home, I'll be there to support your family on this sacred occasion.

DID YOU KNOW? Doula is a Greek word meaning "woman who serves". A birth doula is a professional labor support person who is trained to assist you and your partner by providing physical, informational and emotional support during labor, birth and postpartum. Essentially, it's the doulas job to "mother the mother", help you achieve the most satisfying birth possible and be a gentle, comforting, compassionate, continuous presence. Women have been serving other women in childbirth since the beginning of time and research has proven that support from a professional birth doula enhances labor, birth and postpartum outcomes.

As your family’s Birth Doula, I will:

  • Provide continuous, expert, unlimited holistic support to you and your partner from the moment you hire me until one week postpartum

  • Assist you in creating an evidence based and holistic Birth Plan

  • Help you determine if labor has indeed started and when it’s time to head to your birthing place (or call the midwife to your home)

  • Offer unlimited support during the entirety of your labor and birth

  • During labor, make suggestions as needed regarding comfort measures, relaxation techniques and positioning to help you have a shorter, easier, safer, healthier, more enjoyable labor

  • Act as a liaison between you and your medical team to ensure compassionate collaboration and communication

  • Offer unbiased, evidence based information so that you can confidently make informed and educated medical decisions as they arise

  • Build confidence in your innate courage, wisdom and strength so that you feel empowered, centered and grounded

  • Be your Partner/Spouses “right hand man” by offering suggestions and guidance on how to nurture, comfort and support you

As a Holistic Birth Doula, I've been witness to hundreds of birthing journeys; each one unique. I've heard the battle cry of the warrior-mother as she boldly enters the gates of birth and witnessed the cotton soft tenderness of a new father's face as he cradles his first born.

I've worked closely with Obstetricians and Midwives and attended births in hospitals, homes, birth centers. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the very important energetic, emotional, sensual and spiritual aspects of conception, pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Birth, being a peak life experience, should be something you enter into feeling totally confident, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, supported and nurtured. This is where I come in!

Giving conscious birth is woman's vision quest... It is ultimate sadhana (spiritual practice) which requires purity in strength, flexibility, health, concentration, surrender and faith. - Jeannine Parvati Baker, Midwife & Yogi

What are the benefits of Birth Doula support?

The benefits of having a professional labor companion (birth doula) at your birth are well documented in the medical and scientific literature. It is known that a trained birth doula:

  • Reduces the risk of cesarean section

  • Reduces the length of labor

  • Reduces the need for an epidural

  • Reduces the risk of the baby needing to be removed via forceps or vacuum extraction

  • Reduces the use of misused and overused medical interventions

  • Facilitates breastfeeding initiation and continuation

  • Increases the mother's satisfaction with her birth experience

  • Reduces the instance of postpartum mood disorders

  • Increases new parents confidence in the care of their newborn

  • And let's face it, it also takes a lot of pressure of your significant other. If your partner has never attended a live birth, is unsure how to navigate the medical system or support you, I’ll be there to guide the way so that you BOTH enjoy the journey.

My Birth Philosophy

I’m not the right doula for every family. I hope you’ll shop around and choose a doula you really click with- it should feel like running into an old friend! Every doula has a different style and personality. To help you make a decision, I want you to know my birth philosophy; if it resonates with you, then let’s meet!

  • Growing, birthing and nurturing a child is something every woman intuitively, instinctively knows how to do; this knowledge is encoded in her DNA.

  • Birth proceeds optimally and safest when the mother is educated, supported, trusts her inner wisdom and has chosen a care provider that practices evidence based medicine

  • Pregnancy, labor, birth and breastfeeding are natural, normal, safe biological functions for which the female body was specifically, intelligently and perfectly designed

  • The experiences of pregnancy and birth effect the lifelong physical, emotional and mental health of both mother and baby

  • It is crucial that parents seeking safe, healthy and empowering birth experiences make informed decisions based on best evidence, carefully select their medical careprovider, understand the concepts of informed consent/informed refusal and know their legal rights as patients

  • "Birthing babies should be just as fun as making babies!" - Melynda Smith, Owner/Founder of Luxe Maternity Concierge

…if you want to know where a woman's true power lies, look to those primal experiences we've been taught to fear... the very same experiences we've been taught to distance ourselves from as much as possible, often by medicalizing them so that we are barely conscious of them anymore. Labor and birth rank right up there with experiences that put women in touch with their feminine power. - Dr. Christiane Northrup
