Welcome to Luxe…

and congratulations on your pregnancy! My name is Melynda Smith; I'm a HypnoBirthing mom and Certified HypnoBirthing® Practitioner, having received my training directly from the inimitable Marie Mongan, Founder of The HypnoBirthing® Institute and thought leader in the realm of conscious birthing. Since 2013, I’ve taught over 1,000 parents how to approach labor as a fun, exciting adventure, tap into their natural birthing instincts, and give birth in an atmosphere of love, peace and relaxation. I’ve also experienced the benefits of HypnoBirthing first hand through the quick, easy and gentle home-births of my three sons, Austin, Bodhi and Harrison.

I teach private and group HypnoBirthing® classes that will enable you and your birth companion to learn the tools and techniques you need to bring your baby into the world in the calm, gentle, safe and healthy way that nature intended.

Hands down, the best decision I've made this {second} pregnancy was attending Melynda's Hypnobirthing classes and hiring her as my birth Doula. Even for a second-time mom the information in her class is absolutely priceless and has made me so confident…

HypnoBirthing® has made it's way into hospitals, birthing centers and homes around the world.

It’s a cutting edge, comprehensive, FUN childbirth education program

that teaches expectant couples to view birth for what it truly is: a natural, normal, safe and healthy part of life that is to be celebrated; instead of just the scary emergency situation so commonly portrayed on TV! The HypnoBirthing® method teaches parents the truth about birth; that in the absence of fear and tension, childbirth is safer, healthier, shorter, easier and even totally enjoyable. In the simplest terms, here’s exactly how HypnoBirthing works: When you’re confident, relaxed and free from fear, your cervix and uterus will work in perfect harmony; just as they were designed to. You, your body and your baby will all be working together, instead of against each other. Any woman can easily learn how to achieve this kind of confident relaxation for a calm, serene and comfortable birth, and when she does, she will experience birth as "Enjoy-Accept-Relax", as opposed to "Fear-Tension-Pain".

This isn’t theory; I’ve personally had not one, but three, short, easy, safe and very healthy home births- all thanks to HypnoBirthing. I’ve also witnessed innumerable amazing HypnoBirths during my career as a Doula and midwives assistant.

When you have your baby with HypnoBirthing®, you won’t be in a trance or asleep. What you’ll experience is similar to the daydreaming, or focusing, that occurs when you’re engrossed in a really good book or movie or just staring into a fire. You’ll be conversant and in good spirits; relaxed, aware and fully in control. In this calm state, your body naturally releases large amounts of "beta-endorphin"; a hormone that is even stronger than morphine, and brings about feelings of euphoria and pleasure. Even better, your body will also release massive amounts of "oxytocin"; the hormone of love and bonding.

The female body is intelligently, specifically and perfectly designed to birth easily, gently and calmly. Childbirth is a natural, normal, safe biological function.

It’s so unfortunate that from the earliest ages, young people in our society are inundated with such negative stories of other women’s birth experiences. Everyone- family members, friends and even strangers, wants to tell them the horrors of giving birth and the media does an exceptional job at portraying it as frightening and painful. As a result, we’ve practically come to EXPECT labor to hurt, for things to go wrong and for it to be scary. The irony is that this fear and anxiety cause your body to release adrenaline and other stress hormones which make muscles contract, blood pressure shoot up and your “fight of flight” instincts to kick in. Obviously, this is the last thing a woman needs when she’s trying to birth her baby. So, the result is exactly what you feared most; long, painful birthing and unnecessary medical interventions. The good news is, this negative programming can be easily, totally reversed, and when it is, birth is peaceful, gentle and easy... the way is was meant to be.

…if you want to know where a woman’s true power lies, look to those primal experiences we’ve been taught to fear…the very same experiences the culture has taught us to distance ourselves from as much as possible, often by medicalizing them so that we are barely conscious of them anymore. Labor and birth rank right up there as experiences that put women in touch with their feminine power…  –Dr. Christiane Northrup
